How Do I Request Labs?

Requesting Labs

To order labs for a patient, first, head to a patient’s chart. Click the plus sign icon in the upper right-hand corner of your screen, then select the labs icon.

Next, select the labs provider you would like to use.

Requesting a New Lab Using Quest, LabCorp or ELLKAY

If you select Quest, LabCorp or ELLKAY as your Labs Provider, you’ll be prompted to enter the name of the lab you’re ordering. Autocomplete will finish the process for you.

Once you’ve selected the lab, designate whether or not the lab requires a PSC Hold Requisition, and choose for whom the lab is being requested.

Next, you have the option to waive the patient’s lab fee. If you check this checkbox, it only affects the patient’s charges – your clinic will still be charged according to the agreement you have with your lab provider.

Here you also have the option to add a reminder to follow up about a particular lab result. You can do so by checking the box next to “Add Follow-Up Reminder.”

The follow-up reminder description includes default details about the labs being ordered. You can, however, change them or add your own additional notes.

Here you also need to select the member of staff responsible for the follow-up, and the date you’d like to be reminded.

Next, click “Next Step.” If additional information is needed, you’ll be prompted to provide it now. These prompts may vary depending on the tests being ordered, and the lab provider.

Once you’re happy with your selection, click “Next Step.” If additional information is needed, you’ll be prompted to provide it now. These prompts may vary depending on the tests being ordered, and the lab provider.

Details Page

Once you’re done with all prompts from the lab ordering process, you’ll be presented with the confirmation page. It includes details such as what the lab was for, who the lab was for, the status when it was requested, which tests were required, and specimens included with the labs.

Printing Labels

Here you also have the option to print labels for the specimen you’re sending in, with the “Print Labels” button near the top right of the screen.

Printing the Lab Order

You also have the option to print the lab order to hand to your patient. Simply click “Print Order” and the detailed confirmation page will be produced.
