Adding a New Practice Location

Is your practice expanding to add a new location? That’s great, congratulations! The Atlas.md EMR is perfectly poised to scale with you. This article will walk you through the steps of setting up a new location and everything else that goes with it.

Enabling a New Location

The first step in adding your new location is enabling the feature. You can do this by going to Account > Settings. You’ll notice a Branch Locations pane there where you can add and manage as many locations as you’d like. Just click the plus sign icon to the upper right and enter the new branch information.

Assign Users to a Location

All users in your Atlas.md EMR account must belong to a location. A user with administration privileges can make these updates by going to Account > Users. Then click the “edit” icon to the far right of the user’s name and make your selection from the Location drop down.

Assign Patients to a Location

All patients need to belong to a location as well. If the patient is assigned a primary doctor, the patient’s location will automatically be assigned to their doctor’s location. To enhance the flexibility of doctors who float to different locations, and patients who are allowed to visit the location that’s most convenient for them, it is not required that the patient and their primary doctor be assigned the same location.

How Location Inventory Works

Each location has their own completely separate inventory. With this, you’ll find that the Inventory page has filters for inventory per location. When you dispense medications, it directly respects the inventory listed for that location. Doctors who belong to multiple locations can select from which location you’d like to dispense from.

The Atlas.md EMR goes the extra mile to make sure you’re doing exactly what you mean to do. So when you’re prescribing or dispensing from a location that doesn’t match your patient’s location, we’ll ask you to confirm your actions before proceeding. Simply follow the on-screen prompts to quickly confirm, and be on your way!

Other Instances of Location

The instances above are the biggest changes you’ll notice once you enable multiple locations in your account. But throughout the EMR you’ll find location-based logic integrated – even in the details. Here are a few examples:

  • Shipment calculations will respect the patient’s location as the sender address.
  • Billing invoices will contain the location information for the location the patient is assigned to.
  • Your Calendar will display location information.
