Kirk Umbehr

Direct Care Transition Expert

Meet Kirk Umbehr. Kirk’s our Chief Growth Hacker. Our Transition Expert Extraordinaire. Your Easy Button.

His role here at Atlas MD includes a broad range of duties, but he specializes in transitioning existing practices to Direct Care as well as working side-by-side with doctors who are largely unfamiliar with the DPC model. In essence, he’ll make converting to DPC a downhill slide instead of an uphill battle.

Kirk has extensive experience in hotel and restaurant management so he fully understands the value of hospitality — a concept doctors actually aren’t taught. Kirk is out to revolutionize that by bringing hospitality to healthcare, one clinic at a time. He works with clinics on every detail, every step of the way both during and after their transition to Direct Care.

After graduating from K-State and earning a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the Department of Hospitality Management and Dietetics, he moved to Kansas City to indulge himself in the country club industry. There he learned how to manage himself, more than 50 employees, and a multi-million dollar yearly budget all at once. Looking to expand his credentials, he later accepted a position as Director of Sales for a commercial LED lighting company before joining Atlas MD. His life experience has taught him that relationships can be a very powerful currency. He ultimately wants to help doctors expose their inner servant hearts to their patients.

Kirk has a deep sense of what it means to be part of the Atlas MD family. After all, he’s literally part of it! Kirk is the youngest of four boys in the Umbehr household – who all miraculously got along, by the way. He grew up and began his own family in 2012 when he married his wife, Amanda. Amanda brought to the table her own very active family, so it’s no surprise that Kirk splits his his downtime between Kansas and Colorado doing things like golfing, playing sand volleyball, attending Royals baseball games, snowboarding, hiking fourteeners and enjoying local flavors.

Reach out anytime to Kirk at kirk@atlas.md He’s anxiously awaiting your transition to DPC!

Keen Umbehr

Atlas Legal Counsel

Meet Keen Umbehr Sr. Atlas Legal Counsel and Sage Elder when it comes to anything that intersects with law and direct care.

Keen joined the Atlas Team on January 1, 2020, and is Atlas’s newest addition to our in-house legal counsels. His primary role at Atlas MD is to provide physicians with a no-cost platform where they can get timely answers to any questions relating to the legal requirements that go hand-in-hand with transitioning to direct care.

To sum it up, Keen provides physicians with a free resource for analyzing contracts and other written agreements and is a one-stop-shop for discussing the legal “what-ifs” doctors typically have when launching their DPC practice.

Keen was born in Great Bend, Kansas, on November 8, 1958. During his childhood, he moved to various African countries before eventually settling in Singapore where he attended Singapore American School until his graduation in 1977.

In June of 1978, Keen married his high school sweetheart, Eileen Van Kirk. The following year, they moved to Alma, Kansas, where they continue to live today. Keen and Eileen had four sons, Jared, Josh, Keen and Kirk.

In 1981, Keen was the successful bidder on a contract to pick up trash for the majority of towns in Wabaunsee County. It was then that he started his trash collection business, Solid Waste Systems, and, soon after, two other local businesses.

In January 1999, Keen sold his trash collection business and enrolled as a freshman at Kansas State University right alongside Jared, and then later with Josh. Keen says that going to college with sons was a “real scream”. On December 8, 2001, Keen graduated cum laude with a BS in political science.

In the fall of 2001, Keen enrolled at Washburn School of Law. He graduated in May, 2005. After passing the bar that summer, Keen was sworn in on September 30, 2005. He has been in private practice for the past fifteen years.

Keen is licensed to practice law in Kansas and therefore can’t technically give anyone “legal advice” outside of the state. However, Keen can provide physicians with valuable and timely assistance on operating a DPC practice, regardless of what state the DPC practice is located in.

Since joining the team, Keen now gets to work with his three sons, Dr. Josh, Kirk, Jared on a daily basis. Chris Beaudin, who used to be the newest member of the Atlas Team, has handed off the “newbie” title to Keen and has simultaneously bestowed upon him the nickname of “the old man.”
